Homeless Outreach Ministry

Dominique CoyanAndrea MarshallWho are we?
The V2V Homeless Outreach Team is made up of a group of individuals that are passionate about seeing the lives of London's homeless transformed by the power of the Gospel and the practical demonstration of Christ's love. The slogan of the team is 'Restoring people back to Christ'.

The men and woman that we meet on the street, have become homeless as a result of a variety of issues and circumstances, such as family and marital breakdown, drug and alcohol addiction, unemployment, mental and physical abuse.

More recently there has been a rise in the numbers of Eastern European's on the streets, who have been sold the promise of London being the filled with 'streets pave with gold', However the reality is so far removed.

What do we do?
The homeless people that we serve, congregate in an area of London called Lincoln's Inn in Holborn (Central London). We visit them on Saturday evenings and serve food and drinks. Our duty is to listen and minister to their needs, and to show them Christ and His love. We find that some just want to talk and share their story, or the events of their week. Others just need a reassuring hug, which reminds them that they are loved and are valuable.

Our Vision
Our main agenda is soul winning. Regardless of their homeless situation, our priority is to lead the homeless to the Lord. This is the first step to lasting change! There have been occasions where the homeless have approached us for prayer. They crave to know this Jesus who has changed our lives.

In Matthew 25:35-36, Jesus says: "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me".

This is the foundation scripture for this ministry. We are an extension of God's hand and heart on the streets of London.

Apart from having a spiritual impact, we also aim to have a practical impact. For example together with the wider church, we held a Christmas Outreach Party for the homeless in Lincoln's Inn (Central London), where we sung Christmas Carols, ministered to the homeless and distributed hot food and individually wrapped Christmas Gifts -'Love in a Box'. This was a fun time had by all - both the homeless and those who volunteered.

The rewards of working in this ministry are immeasurable. When you see the impact that love and the power of the Holy Spirit can have on the lives of the homeless, it makes it all worthwhile.
