Prison Ministry

Chantelle Easmon JohnsonMission Statement

“Changing lives for good”

This mission statement has a two-fold meaning. Changing lives for good refers to the scripture in Romans 8:28 which outlines that ‘all things work together for good to those that love God, who are the called according to his purpose.’ The mission statement recognises that although time spent in prison may be a seemingly negative event in their lives, good can still come out of their experience and their lives can be transformed for good by the power of God.

In addition to this, the Mission Statement signifies that all change in an ex-offenders life will be permanent and lasting, that all change will be ‘for good’. This change takes place inwardly, through salvation and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in each new believer.

Vision
The vision of the V2V Prison Ministry team is to offer rehabilitation, mentoring, guidance and counselling to ex-offenders in an accepting and loving environment, based on the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The vision includes taking a holistic approach to rehabilitation, ensuring the spiritual well being of an ex-offender is catered for as well as the emotional, social and mental health.

The Prison ministry team also plays an instrumental part in the re-integration of ex-offenders back into society, offering, where possible, information on education, housing, employment and other areas of support deemed necessary which will ensure a smooth transition back into society.

The team desires to see ex-offenders restored and set free from the mistakes of their past, to recognise their value and fulfil God’s plan for their lives which will enable them to positively contribute to their families, church, generation and society as a whole.

Acquisition of a mentoring facility also form a part of the long-term vision of the team, where offices and an advice/communication centre will be available for use by ex-offenders. Access to information on housing and jobs will be provided, in addition to a drop-in surgery and Internet and telephone usage.

The vision of the prison ministry itself is based on and subject to the overall vision of the spiritual heads of V2V Church, Pastors Douglas and Erica Goodman.

Current Work
The V2V Prison ministry team currently visits numerous organisations and prisons to offer mentoring programmes, Bible Studies and Church services.
